Bold Services Complement Hoag’s Bold Expansion

With generous community support through the Boldly Hoag campaign, construction is quickly moving forward on the Sun Family Campus in Irvine. To ensure easy hospital access while new buildings are underway, Hoag is offering complimentary valet and shuttle services for patients and visitors. The free shuttle, which is funded by philanthropy, operates daily and is just one example of the many ways Hoag donors are elevating the patient experience. Now adorned with Boldly Hoag campaign signage after receiving a recent makeover, the shuttle is a mobile reminder of Hoag’s ambitious plans for expansion and an invitation to learn more about all that’s to come for patients and the community.

Shuttle passengers can get a sneak peek of construction while taking a ride across the Sun Family Campus. Transportation is provided from the main entrance of the hospital to the Benjamin & Carmela Du Emergency Pavilion and both new parking structures. Stops are also made at Hoag Health Center Sand Canyon for easy access to urgent care and specialty services, including pre-operative testing, imaging, breast care, endoscopy, infusion, radiology, and more.

“The shuttle helps me get people where they need to be,” said Alice Johnson, a supervisor of Hoag’s Care Coordination Program, another philanthropically funded initiative. “Construction can cause some confusion, but I see the relief on patients’ faces when I schedule this service for them and offer to call their physician’s office to let them know they’re on their way. And they can get dropped off at their car afterward. It’s a seamless process.”

Alice is one of five care coordinators at Hoag who provides vital assistance in navigating the complexities of health care so patients and visitors can rest assured that their experience will be as stress-free as possible. Thanks to generous community support, Hoag’s Care Coordination Program streamlines care across the Hoag enterprise, including all 16 of Hoag’s urgent cares and five of its health centers. For physicians and staff, care coordinators also make a meaningful impact on their capacity to meet patients’ needs. From scheduling and insurance preauthorization to imaging, prescriptions, follow-up appointments, and more, care coordinators serve as liaisons between patients and physicians’ offices.

“My passion is serving whoever comes through the door. Whether that be a patient or a loved one, I want people to know they’re not just anyone; they’re part of the Hoag family. We are here for them, to meet them where they are—in their struggle, their confusion, their delight—and to make sure their experience is the best it can be,” Alice shared.

More than new buildings, Hoag’s expansion is about a commitment to comprehensive care and the welcoming patient experience Alice and so many others at Hoag work to deliver every day. This commitment is likewise a pillar of the Boldly Hoag campaign. With the most advanced thinking in health care, architecture, hospitality, and customer service driving the design of new spaces in Irvine, every element of the patient journey, from wayfinding to how spaces make people feel, has been thoughtfully considered.
