Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Du Family Hospital Pavilion

On August 22, Hoag celebrated a milestone with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Du Family Hospital Pavilion, gathering Hoag leaders, supporters, and the generous families whose philanthropy helped bring the vision to life. In attendance were Benjamin and Carmela Du, along with their family members, as well as members of the Sun family—whose visionary support laid the foundation for the broader expansion of the Sun Family Campus. Serving as the gateway to compassionate care and innovation, the Du Family Hospital Pavilion connects patients and visitors to an array of services and facilities.

In a heartfelt address during the ceremony, Benjamin Du reflected on his family’s longstanding partnership with Hoag: “Our earlier gift [to Hoag’s Irvine hospital] helped build the Emergency Pavilion, and seeing how it’s served this community in moments of real crisis has been one of the most meaningful experiences of our lives,” he said. “It’s a reminder that giving isn’t about buildings—it’s about people… This new building is a continuation of that belief—that healthcare should be excellent, accessible, and rooted in community. It may carry our name, but it represents the work of so many.”

Open House Gives Staff First Look at
Laboratory & Logistics Pavilion

On July 31, Hoag welcomed employees for an exclusive look inside the new Laboratory & Logistics Pavilion. The open house offered a glimpse into the future of laboratory, pharmacy, and campus operations, showcasing the innovation behind the 35,000-square-foot facility.

Staff toured the thoughtfully designed spaces—each purpose-built to enhance safety, efficiency, and collaboration. Witnessing the technology in action brought the pavilion’s mission to life: streamlined workflows, centralized operations, and elevated care across the campus.

Dedication of Pacific Life Foundation Lobby Recognizes Partnership

Hoag unveiled the sign naming the Pacific Life Foundation Lobby on August 8 at the entrance and registration area of the Du Family Hospital Pavilion, honoring the foundation’s generous gift to the Boldly Hoag campaign. The foundation has been a longtime supporter of Hoag’s Irvine campus, previously funding the Pacific Life Foundation Courtyard in the Benjamin & Carmela Du Emergency Pavilion. Hoag leaders expressed gratitude, highlighting the shared goals of both organizations to support families when they need it.

The new lobby will serve as a welcoming space for patients and visitors, symbolizing the strong partnership between Hoag and Pacific Life.

“As organizations, Pacific Life and Hoag may serve different purposes. But we share core values,” said Caroline A. Pereira, MBA, president of the Hoag Hospital Foundation. “We believe in supporting people through life’s most critical moments. We invest in the long-term well-being of families. And we both take seriously the responsibility to serve the communities that have helped us grow. That shared purpose makes this partnership so meaningful.”

Allan & Sandy Fainbarg Reflection Garden Honors Family Legacy

Nancy and Irv Chase recently visited Hoag’s Worship Center to see the newly installed signage for the Allan & Sandy Fainbarg Reflection Garden, named in honor of Nancy’s parents. Irv, a member of the Hoag Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, along with the Fainbarg and Chase families, have been longtime supporters of Hoag. They have made a meaningful mark with this garden—a tranquil space designed for spiritual reflection. Located near the Tree of Life memorial, which honors organ donors, the garden offers a sacred place for peace and remembrance within the campus.

Advancing Care in Loving Memory: The Cheng Family

Hoag leaders and clinicians gathered on August 12 for a meaningful fireside chat hosted by Jean, Cliff, and George Cheng at their company, FEMA Electronics’ corporate office in Irvine. The Chengs opened their doors for a conversation about the future of healthcare in Irvine, with a focus on the Sun Family Campus. In honor of their late father, Bao-ding Bob Cheng, who passed away from colon cancer, the main lobby of the Cancer & Digestive Hospital and Outpatient Pavilion on Hoag’s Sun Family Campus will bear his name.

The Cheng family’s gift supports the work of Kenneth Chang, MD, James & Pamela Muzzy Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair in GI Cancer, Digestive Health Institute, and his vision for further elevating Hoag’s position as a premiere destination for world-class GI cancer care.

Introducing the mwPolar Foods Dining Room

Inspired by the vision shared at the recent fireside chat, philanthropist Frederick Chiu made a gift to name the dining room in the Du Family Hospital Pavilion. Now named the mwPolar Foods Dining Room, this space is located near the main entrance of the Sun Family Campus and serves as a welcoming environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff. Whether enjoying a meal or a place to connect, the dining room fosters comfort and community. This generosity reflects a commitment to enhancing the healing environment at Hoag and supporting those who come through its doors.

Jack & Sharon Meyers Visitor Lounge

Thanks to a generous gift from longtime Hoag supporters Jack and Sharon Meyers, the second-floor visitor lounge of the cancer center within the Cancer & Digestive Outpatient Pavilion has been named in their honor: the Jack & Sharon Meyers Visitor Lounge. This lounge offers people a welcoming place to settle before or after visits or appointments. Through their ongoing generosity and commitment to innovation, including support for precision medicine research and applied genomic technology, the Meyers are helping Hoag transform cancer care.
