Final Beam Tops Off the Surgical Pavilion on Hoag’s Sun Family Campus

On Thursday, June 6, a construction crew at Hoag’s Sun Family Campus in Irvine hoisted the last and highest beam onto the Surgical Pavilion. When complete, the pavilion will house a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, eight new operating rooms, and a seamless new experience for patients and their families, among many other high-tech features. To celebrate this construction milestone and a new era in health care for communities across South Orange County, donors, volunteers, clinicians, and staff all gathered for a beam signing and topping-off ceremony. This longstanding construction site tradition included a small evergreen tree placed above the beam, signifying that construction reached the sky without loss of life or injury and symbolizing good luck for future visitors.
