A Trip Around the Sun Family Campus

As the campus evolves, so do opportunities to see Hoag’s expansion up close. From a lookout point atop a parking structure with mountain views to glimpses of the complex mechanisms in the structural foundations below, tours are a chance to step inside what’s coming and see where philanthropy can make the greatest impact.

The expanded campus will include new state-of-the-art specialty care centers for surgical innovation, cancer, digestive and women’s health, in addition to dedicated urgent care services for cancer patients. The expansion will bring six new buildings, 155 inpatient beds, eleven operating rooms, two additional procedure rooms and 120,000 square feet of ambulatory facilities.

Central to Hoag’s expansion are also plans to blend high-tech and high-touch features, including wellness and health-enhancing indoor and outdoor spaces, meditation gardens and seamless, patient-focused experiences from arrival to patient rooms and every step in between.

Join us as we travel around the Sun Family Campus.

Facility overview

Judith & Jan Kolar Wellness Park
A hallmark of the Sun Family Campus is an emphasis on lush outdoor spaces. Lined with greenery and flowers, the Kolar Wellness Park provides a soothing open-air space for visitors and staff alike to enjoy. This park features open-air seating, shaded tables, and walking paths.

Surgical Pavilion
This building will combine the advanced technology needed for surgeries with soothing surroundings that foster healing, redefining the surgical experience for patients and their families.

The space will include eight new operating rooms, including a hybrid room, allowing simultaneous diagnostic imaging and surgeries. It will feature two procedure rooms for minor interventions; a 24-room intensive care unit with a family room and balcony; and a seamless experience from check-in to departure, including a new patient discharge lounge.

Women’s Hospital Pavilion

The Women’s Hospital Pavilion will unite leading-edge technology and compassionate care to create a destination for inpatient and outpatient health care spanning all stages of a woman’s life.

The pavilion will feature a new inpatient wing with 24 labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites; three operating rooms; 21 antepartum and postpartum rooms; and an OB triage space with patient and labor monitoring. It will include Maternal Mental Health Program offerings and a Maternal Fetal Health Center. Additionally, the pavilion will include a 17-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Rounding out the space are physician offices and a Comprehensive Breast Center with MRI, stereotactic and diagnostic mammography, biopsy ultrasound, standard ultrasound, and DEXA scan.

Du Family Hospital Pavilion – Front Entrance
Named after generous philanthropists Ben and Carmela Du, who have long supported Hoag’s Irvine growth, this pavilion and its new main entrance will be the “front door” of the hospital and welcome all who come to Hoag.

This area will feature a grand arrival space with valet and the Pacific Life Foundation Lobby. The Hoag Cafe, in gratitude to Jeanette Bertea Hennings, will serve various cuisines to accommodate a range of diets and tastes. A coffee bar will offer specialty beverages that can be enjoyed in a comfortable lounge and waiting areas.

Cancer & Digestive Hospital Pavilion
Uniting two health areas that often impact patients concurrently, the Cancer & Digestive Hospital Pavilion will deliver comprehensive care by specialized clinicians aiming to innovate and change the course of treatment and healing.

Comprising the pavilion is a two-floor cancer center with clinic and infusion spaces co-located to deliver focused treatment for different types of cancer. It will also include a specialized pharmacy; GI and fluoroscopy labs; and six gastrointestinal procedure suites with broadcast capabilities for educational purposes. Seventy inpatient rooms and administrative and teaching spaces will round out the space. Additionally, a 24-hour urgent care for cancer patients will be available.

Worship Center
This dedicated space for reflection will serve people of all faiths. With ample seating draped in natural light, the Worship Center will provide comfort and respite.

Among the warm and calming center’s many features are an open space to congregate and glass walls with access to the open-air Fainbarg Reflection Garden. Additionally, the garden will access a Tree of Life sculpture, honoring posthumous organ donors. Resources and staff will be available for counsel and guidance.
